DescriptionPhotograph of the English botanist and television presenter Dr. David Bellamy planting a tōtara tree during his visit to Upper Hutt Primary School on 2 March, 1989. He also planted a kauri tree.

Dr. Bellamy came to talk to the children about the importance of conservation on behalf of the Natural Heritage Foundation.

He had been working in New Zealand at Massey University, Palmerston North for four months and visited 16 other schools during his stay.

During this time he appeared on a Department of Conservation pamphlet: 'Old man's beard must go. / A trim is not enough.'
