DescriptionThe firm had been started about 60 years earlier by Ken's father, Evan.
In 1961 they had taken on a Morris cars agency.
In the mid-1970s they had taken on Hondas, when they first arrived in New Zealand, but in 1989 Hondas only offered two models, and supplies of these were limited; Mitsubishi offered around 20 different cars and 20 commercial vehicles. Gethings would continue to support Hondas.

A greyscale image was printed in the 'Leader' on April 4, 1989.

Ken Gething died on August 17, 1993, aged 73; the August 30 'Leader' printed an obituary.
Ken was born in Birmingham; the family migrated to New Zealand when he was five. From Masterton they moved to Upper Hutt, where Ken attended primary school, and then Hutt Valley High School, then trained in accountancy and worked in a Wellington bank. He served during World War 2 in anti-aircraft artillery in the Pacific, and married Jenny in February 1945.
When his father had a stroke, Ken moved to the family business, and in spite of a lack of hands-on knowledge, ran and grew the business until he retired in 1980.Date TakenMarch/April 1989Geotagnot specified
