DescriptionIt was built by Mr L.H. Luckens of Lower Hutt and was opened by the Postmaster-General Sir Joseph Ward on 15 April 1918.
A March 21, 2018 'Leader' centenary article said that the first postmistress, Mis L C Moir, lived in quarters at the rear.
The Post Office was closed on 5 February 1988. (Historic detail supplied by Brian Pearce.)
In May 1989 Jan Elizabeth and Hendrik Schouten and Desiree Lorraine Cooney applied for permission to open it as a cafe. A sketch of 'Stamps' Cafe' appeared in the May 16 'Leader'.
However, when approval was given, the Schoutens found the hours too restrictive, and takeaways were not allowed, so the cafe project was dropped.

A greyscale image was printed in the 'Leader' on May 9, 1989 and again on July 4.

The building was converted to a house by Maureen and Colin Gibbs; an article and interior picture were printed in colour in the February 12, 1991 'Leader'

It was advertised for sale at an auction on November 30, 1993.

The September 4, 2002 'Leader' printed a two-page spread on the history of local post offices.Date TakenMay 1989Geotagnot specified
