DescriptionThis is one of a set of three 'Leader' photos (rubberworkers' union president John Forsyth and secretary Roger Brott, and engineers' union organised Phil Bosworth); they are marked 11/87, but were not printed.
South Pacific Tyres had announced the end of tube and truck-tyre production, with the loss of 120 out of 480 factory jobs; it was reported in the November 10 'Leader'.
John Forsyth's and South Pacific tyres chief executive Eric Rainsford's comments were printed on November 17, Bill Jeffries, M P's on the 24th, and Phil Bosworth's on December 1.
The shirt emblem comes from a series of crime novels written by Leslie Charteris; his character, Simon Templar, used criminal means to right wrongs, and left the stick figure, which appeared in the 38 books and the TV series, at the scenes of crime.
