DescriptionWhen a greyscale image was printed in the 'Leader' on September 29, 1987 it included Willem Braakman, of Burns Grove; the original print has been cut.
Noise came from 'sledge hammers, vibrators, and steam cleaning' , plus air-blasting and crane motors. Trees had been planted on an embankment, but without topsoil.
The council would file against Capital Precast (jointly owned by Downer and Angus Construction) in the October 19-23 week, but the case would probably be held until the next year.
The concrete plant's three 26-ton cranes were dismantled in January 1991; modified at Paraparaumu and then reassembled at Precision Precast, Otaki.
This image has been cut, and appeared on March 22, 1988; he was not satisfied that the noise had abated over four months, and had applied for noise levels to be passed to him under the Official Information Act. The council was prosecuting Capital Precast for excessive noise; the case would be heard on May 18.
The April 26 issue reported that he would go to the Planning Tribunal, and defer seeking the High Court injunction.
Original print is not with the rest of September 29.
The October 15, 1985'Leader' printed an 'Art Profile' by Patrick Bowles; David was head of the environmental section of the Wildlife Service, and had taken up pointillistic drawing; he had won first prize in Tingey's Art Awards in 1983 and 1984. An example has been scanned into 'Recollect'.
