The January 4, 1995 'Leader' said he had sold his business, and would be concentrating on forestry, bowls, and Rotary.
His father, a pharmacist, had come to Wellington in 1946, and later owned a Lower Hutt business. Peter qualified as a pharmacist in 1955, and opened Maidstone Pharmacy in Queen's Chambers in 1956, then moved to the former Marshall's Glass building (site?) on the corner of Logan and Main streets in 1964. He traded as Peter Owles Pharmacy after Maidstone Mall opened. The new owners in 1995, Joanna and Michael Seymour, reverted tho the company's formal name, as 'Maidstone' had disappeared from the Mall.
Peter and his son Ted had been providing fireworks for the annual displays since 1970; $300 000 in profits had been given to the community.
