DescriptionThe previous week Griffiths Drilling Company drilled three test bores on the area where a stopbank would be built and which would support part of the complex buildings.
The bores went to a depth of 12-14 metres with samples taken every one metre.
They were the first on-site work to take place towards building the multi-use complex.
This picture was not printed by the 'Leader; the information came with a different picture, printed in greyscale in the 'Leader' on October 15, 1991; it showed George Matthews, chairman of the sports trust, and Bill Baillie, president of the Rimutaka Licensing Trust; they are not visible here.
