This perspective shows the extended premises as they will appear viewed from King Street. A contract for these extensive alterations and additions has been let to Martin F Cunningham Ltd., who will be commencing work almost immediately.
The contract embraces the provision of new bar and kitchen facilities, and a games room. In addition a new secretary's office and committee room will be provided, whilst the new entrance to the clubrooms will be of imposing design.
When completed the modernised premises will enhance nearly 8000 sq. ft. and will provide facilities to a standard bettered by few in the country. The work is expected to take 6 to 7 months and thus should be ready for use by Christmas.
This complex is the culmination of a planned programme extending over the 17 years since the premises were first transferred to King Street, and has been made possible entirely by the members' support of the various activities conducted by the Association.
The architect for the project is Bill Pearson who has supervised the alterations since the first stage commenced In 1966.
Bill Pearson died in 1993, aged 78; obituary February 8; retired from government work in 1969; local buildings included St Patrick's College chapel, Cosmopolitan Club, RSA and Post Office Training College.
