The Christian Heritage Party combined with the Christian Democrats to form the Christian Coalition in 1995, then split in 1997; the CDP faction renamed itself Future New Zealand in 1998 and merged with Peter Dunne's United New Zealand to form United Future New Zealand, which won nine seats in 2002. Geoff played a major part in that merger, and would have been a list M P, but had died on New Year's day, 2002.
