DescriptionMark and Fiona Rammell owned Plant Express in King Charles Drive.Wellington Plant Wholesalers advertised a closing sale there, starting in the October 2, 1996 'Leader'.
They had bought this site and hoped to have the first stage ready by Labour Day, 1995.
Features would include a licensed café and tearooms, reception area with seating for 120, garden centre, craft shop and general store.
Mark was an airline pilot, and hoped to have an adjacent airstrip for scenic flights.
Printed in the 'Leader' in colour on August 1, 1994, with an overall plan of the site. Recollect also has a plan of the car-parking relative to the main building.
Figures from the November 5, 2003 'Leader', where the business was advertised for sale:-
5.7 hectares
Main building 1160 sq m, including 350 sq m Pakuratahi Suite, which could accommodate 210 people, and 100-sq-m Rimutaka Room (40-70).
Manager's accommodation the upper level.
The café also serviced one at the Rimutaka Hill Road summit.
Also available; five two-bedroom chalets.
