DescriptionTaken at the same time as a greyscale proof sheet from which an image was used on June 6.
That image, with no teeth visible, was used in greyscale in the 'Leader' from August 30, 1995.
Somebody added a 'Vote Meek for mayor' button to a photo of a small boy in a Chaplow's advertisement for the 1995 Plunket baby photo show.
She got 3887 votes to Rex Kirton's 4144.
The November 22 'Leader' said the election of deputy mayor had been stormy; Nicola Meek had polled highest, but was not nominated; Rex Kirton had proposed Hilda Billington, but was defeated; Patricia Christianson was elected, by one vote.
An editorial following a lot of correspondence following the vote pointed out that the 'Team Upper Hutt' group had promised to work as a team, and calls for them to disband were unjustified; and it was their team's nominee who was elected.
