Hearings were held in October 1994; the first was covered by an October 31 article, which summarised the arguments for the proposal, and objectors preferring upgraded rail, or discouraging the use of cars and trucks.
The go-ahead was announced in the August 14, 2002 'Leader'. $14.4m had been allocated by Transfund; 5.5 km of road were involved.
The September 14, 2005 'Leader' reported that completion would be in early 2006.
