The Upper Hutt Uniting Parish had received three offers; the parish council was meeting to decide on a recommendation to be put to the congregation.
Dayna Lindsay, 1, had been christened there; her parents had been married there, and her grandmother , Bev Clifford, was hoping to have her funeral there. The church had a photo of two great-grandmothers on the church committee, and other relations had been elders.
The collection also has a picture of her in her mother's arms. It was printed on August 21. The church had agreed to sell it to an unnamed local buyer who hoped to restore it and use it for weddings and funerals. Heidi and Alan McGhie were not named until they had returned from overseas.
