A physical trainer, he had been diagnosed with Hodgkins' disease in 2000, and after three years of intensive treatment had been in remission since March.
He was collecting for the Child Cancer Foundation; his march would take him from Auckland to Christchurch. In the Hutt Valley he was accompanied by singer Frankie Stevens and former All Black Norm Hewitt, who was not pictured.
Frankie was awarded the New Zealand Order of Merit in January 2005 for his services to entertainment.Date Taken30th September 2004
