She had been appointed by Upper Hutt Uniting Parish and Presbyterian Support Services Central to set up the centre 15 years earlier; it had grown to having six counsellors. She and the centre had had a role in setting up the Upper Hutt Women's Learning Group for women in violent relationships; this was now independent of the Centre.
She had recently played a part in establishing a Māori counsellor's position at Ōrongomai Marae.
