AddBy: Mike Donnellan17th Mar 2017 8:42PMEthical Inspection and Testing Ltd was formed by my dear wife Doris and I in 1995. As a former seagoing Chief Engineer I was subsequent to leaving the sea, employed in 1990 by "The Marine Division" of the New Zealand Ministry of Transport as an "Engineer Surveyor and Surveyor of Ships". That job involved the inspection when commissioned and usually annually thereafter; and certification of boilers, lifts, cranes and ships etc. The Marine Division was privatised by the Government of New Zealand in the early 1990's however after 123 years of service to the public of New Zealand and to local and international ship owners. The privatised entity became known as Marine and Industrial Safety Inspection Services Ltd but there were also several 'splinter' companies - of which Ethical Inspection and Testing Ltd was one - certified by government to do the same work.
My dear wife Doris became very ill in 2004 and we were blessed that the French ship classification Society "Bureau Veritas" took an interest in our small company which towards the end kept six of us employed. Bureau Veritas purchased Ethical Inspection and Testing Ltd in December 2004, a month after my beloved wife passed away.
