DescriptionOne of 14 photographs associated with businesses featured in an 'Upper Hutt progressive city' feature in the September 21, 1992 'Leader'.
No. 18 housed Maidstone Mushrooms. They had been approved in September 1980, and started in 1981. The March 24 'Leader' pictured Cynthia Evans, Betty Watt and Janie Holes picking the first crop; the following week, the firm advertised it was open for business.
The Upper Hutt Work Skills Development Programme moved into part of the building in June 1981, but had to move to Mangaroa Valley when Maidstone Mushrooms expanded in February 1984.
