The inefficient manual system had been struggling to deal with 9000 items issued in a week.
So far, nine of fourteen terminal had been installed, and 29 000 of the 80 000 books for issuing had been entered into the database. Two data-input operators were working full-time; one had been there for a year. It was hoped that the system would be running by July 1993.
