Runcimans had won the tender, but had decided not to take the work on; they would continue to run school buses, workers' buses to Wellington and Porirua, and contract work.
The exchange would take place in February 1. the new company's Cityline buses had electronic ticketing as an option. Cityline and Wellington City Transport were owned by Scotland's Stage Coach Holdings Limited. Paul Runciman had driven buses in Edinburgh in the late 1970s, when Stage Coach was beginning; that company had started with two double-deckers, and now ran 3000 buses and 10 000 staff in Britain, Africa, Canada and now New Zealand.
Runcimans tickets would be honoured.
