He was the first layman to head St Pat's, and is pictured with his wife Veronica and sons Dominic and Austin. He had been deputy rector since 1990, and acting rector in 1991-92 while the current rector Father Jim Dooley was overseas, and would take up the rector's position in 1994.
Born in England; Bachelor of education, Liverpool University; he and his wife came to new Zealand in 1972 and he taught at Taumarunui High School, and most recently at Gisborne Boys' High School, where he was deputy principal.
At St Pat's he taught English and religious education.
His wife was teaching at St Brendan's School.
