Their garden was one of three New Zealand gardens recommended in the American 'Gourmet' magazine because of its exotic and native plants.
The Munros had bought the property 23 years earlier, and moss had been plentiful; the garden stayed green all year. They had been potters until the stock market crashed in the late eighties, and decided to open the garden to the public; many of their pottery customers had asked for a look at it. They offered guided tours, and also sold perennials.
