DescriptionA view of the swollen Te Awa Kairangi / Hutt River last Thursday from Twin Bridges in Akatarawa looking south toward Birchville. Two days earlier, the Hutt River had peaked at five metres higher than its usual flow at the Birchville recorder, experiencing what the Wellington Regional Council called a "seven year return period flood".
Printed in colour in the ‘Leader’ on November 14, 1994, with a second picture taken two days earlier.
This picture was taken from the Bridge Road bridge, which crossed the Akatarawa River; the Hutt river flows from left to right.
A 2015 flood wrecked the bridge; the central pier was undermined and subsided.
