The New Zealand Society of Genealogists presented the award at their 1995 conference at CIT; the $100 in bonus bonds was in memory of a former vice-president, who had died at the age of 46.
The Manssen family had celebrated 150 years in New Zealand in Nelson, and Lynley had completed the book n 1993; the family tree had been displayed in the National Archives for two months in a Year of the Family exhibition.
The book traced her father's maternal family tree.
Lynley was now working on a Doyle family history; they were descended from fencibles; Irish soldiers brought in with their families, 1847-1853; she hoped to have the book ready in time for their 1997 celebrations.
This was the second time that the award had come to Upper Hutt; Hylton Tuckett had won it the year before.
