She had had a problem with the retina of her right eye lifting eight years ago, limiting it to peripheral vision, and in the last year the same problem had arisen with the left. She is pictured with a closed-circuit television system which enlarges print so that she can read it.
The article was headed 'Partial sight won't stop door to door collecting'.
She had been a well-known national softball selector and coach.
In lawn bowls she had a fours title and a few championships, and was a qualified coach; she still coached, and had also recently organised games for 12 visually-impaired players.
She won the National Vision Impaired Singles Bowling Championship in December 1996. Her class was B2; poor peripheral vision.
