The house was said to be at 33 Logan Street; it is on the corner of Kowhai Avenue and Logan Street.
The principal sponsors were Pak 'n Save, who had announces a scheme earlier in the year; they had been approached about two years earlier. Their suppliers had also contributed, as had the Rimutaka Licensing Trust, Plunket national headquarters, Trustbank Community Trust and the Upper Hutt City Council. Barnardos would rent a room.
Pak 'n Save later ran a scheme where donations on specifically-marked products had raised around $30 000 each year, and had paid off a $100 000 mortgage by July 1999.
A similar campaign was run in April 2003 to pay for painting; the paint had been donated by Heretaunga Rotary.
