The reunion was moved to St Patrick's College because of alterations at Trentham Racecourse. Over 100 would be attending.
Stuart had raised 90 pounds over 18 months, delivering the 'Dominion' around Naenae and Taita; his mother, widowed in 1939, with four children, mamaged to raise about a third of the total cost of three hundred pounds. Stuart was 15 years old when the New Zealand group sailed from Welliington on the RMS (Royal Mail Ship/Steamer) Rangitata, which was still in troopship configuration; the voyage via Panama took six weeks. The group was inspected by King George VI at Buckingham Palace, princesses Elizabeth and Margaret were at the Royal Mews afternoon tea. After ten weeks under canvas at the Scout Association's Gilwell Park they sailed to the Jamboree at Moisson, near Paris, where there were 40 000 scouts from 70 nations.
They returned via Suez, Aden and Sri Lanka, on the Atlantis, after six months away.
