Margaret Robinson with a picture of her grandmother, Grace Martin and a file on her research into the land's history. There was an extensive article with the picture.
In 1967 some 349 acres of land had been taken by Wellington City Council under the Wellington City and Suburban Water Supply Act, and had paid Mrs martin $24 000; Mrs martin had sold six acres for $16 000 around the same time. The land was adjacent to a water supply reserve.
There was a long history of disputes, spelled out in the article; Mrs Martin's possessions were taken away in her absence in 1975.
The land was not used for water-supply purpose; the Wellington Regional Council was growing pines for timber. There had been rumours that the water-supply business might be privatised.
The council was under a statutory obligation to offer the land to the former owners if it was not being used for the specified purpose.
