As a member of the Red Cross Society, Eddie Just had been a first aid tutor for schools, scouts, rangers, guides and teachers for 27 years and convenor of the emergency plans committee.
He had been a member of the Hapai Club executive and management committee for 10 years.
He had been secretary and chairman of the Upper Hutt Valley Recreational Association, 1978-1984, and had written weekly 'Leader' articles on leisure time 1984-1988.
The Marshes received a joint award for their involvement in such organisations as the Boys' Brigade and the St John Ambulance Brigade; they were life members of both. Mrs Marsh was a founding member of Upper Hutt St John, and had been promoted to Serving sister in 1959, Officer in 1975 and Commander in 1981.
Mr Marsh had been with Wellington Hospital Board's head office since 1945, crew member and radio operator, Wellington Sea Rescue Service, 30 years as an auxiliary member of St John and Upper Hutt sub-centre secretary for 10 years, secretary and then chairman of he Wellington centre. He was also chairman of the New Zealand Fellowship of Former Scouts and Guides, and a member of the Baden-Powell Guild, secretary of the Mangaroa Masonic Lodge, and vice-president and auditor of the Upper Hutt branch of the red Cross. he had been on Trentham School committee, and on the Brentwood School commission, then on its committee for 14 years, with time as chairman and secretary. At Upper Hutt College he had been a founding board member, and I his ten years had been chairman and deputy.
His wife had been founder of Upper Hutt St John's cadet divisions in 1939, superintendent of cadet nursing 1942-1961, superintendent of Upper Hutt nursing division 1961-65, Hutt Valley supervisor of nursing cadet divisions 1966-69, and then superintendent of nursing, Hutt Valley. She had held various St John posts as president or chairman.
She had also been Meals on Wheels organizer for 21 years, on the Hapai Club executive for 25, was a life member of the Wellington Sea Rescue Service and formerly a crew member and radio operator, committee member and life member of the Royal Forest and Bird Society, and had been associated with Girl Guides since she joined at 11.

The Hines family had come to Upper Hutt in 1927; she worked with the Alliance Finance Corporation before being seconded to the WAACs. She married Eric Marsh in St David's in 1945. She had received a civic award with her husband in 1989, and a QSM in the early 1990s.
The ‘Leader’ printed an obituary for Mrs Marsh on December 17, 1997; she had died unexpectedly at Hutt Hospital on December 6, aged 76.
The September 11, 1974 'Leader' printed an extensive article on the Marshes.
