Han and Handrik Schouten, previous owners of Café 54, and Desiree Cooney had lodged a town-planning application. However, when approval was given, the Schoutens found the hours too restrictive, and takeaways were not allowed, so the cafe project was dropped.
The building was converted to a house by Maureen and Colin Gibbs; an article and interior picture were printed in colour in the February 12, 1991 'Leader'
