DescriptionCommunity Gallery vice-president Hilda Billington is seen with hand-blown glass by Scandinavian glassblowers by Marie and Ola Hoglund, who were living in Nelson. Their items were coloured, engraved, or sandblasted.
A greyscale image was printed in the 'Leader' on September 20, 1988.
On December 10, 1985, Patrick Bowles wrote an 'Art Profile' on Hilda; some 16 years earlier she had been interested in stone-cutting and polishing, but there were no local courses, so she attended an Upper Hutt College pottery class. A part-time job raised the funds for her shed - 'it was not a studio' - and she had been active ever since, using designs based on traditional British practice; she had also taught pottery at night classes for 12 years.
