Track 8 from the 1978 album Te reo o Ma-wai-hakona: the voice of Ma-wai-hakona, by Upper Hutt kapa haka group Māwai Hakona, 'He hari-kai' is a food-bearing chant by Te Oka (Jock McEwen).
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II made reference to the whakataukī (proverb) 'Nau te rourou, naku te rourou' in her speech when addressing the assembled tribes at teh Royal Polynesian Festival in Gisborne in 1977. Coincidentally, Māwai Hakona used this whakataukī (which means 'with your basket and my basket the people will be fed') as an introduction to their performance after the Queen's speech.
