A typical advertisement spelling out the details of the competition was printed in June 2, 1987.
Each month the Retailers Association and Maidstone Mall Merchants Association anonymously interviewed salespeople; the monthly winner would receive a dinner for two at the then-new Oceania Chinese restaurant, while the year's winner would win a trip for two to a New Zealand destination which was yet to be decided.
Owners Jill and Garry McIntosh advertised an extended showroom and the new 'Tubbers' name in the April 26, 1983 'Leader'.
Joiners and shopfitters Humphrey & McClune of Mountbatten Grove had opened their Gas, Kitchen & Bathroom Centre in 1979; the August 7 Leader' printed a six-page advertising feature.
