DescriptionPrinted in greyscale in the ‘Leader’ on May 7, 1985.
A $293 592 tender from Dixon & McKinley Ltd had just been accepted; total cost with ancillary work would be $434 142; Bowen House, the former Hutt County building in Wellington, was being sold, and Hutt County would be taking out an eight-year $100 000 loan.
In the same issue of the 'Leader was a picture of the Hutt County branch manager Mark Nicholle looking at a car which had come close to demolishing the current office on Fergusson Drive. A concrete footing had stopped the car, but a filing cabinet had been thrown across the room, and telephone and computer lines had been cut.
The building was topped-off in late October. The cupola formed part of the ventilating system.
The January 21, 1986 'leader' reported that the building had been opened 'just before Christmas'.
This new building was later used by Hutt Independent Boys' School, and then a retirement home.
