Seating would be increased from 20 to 195, with room for 30 more in the foyer, if necessary. At a parish meeting, 77 had approved, with none against the proposal.
In 1979 the church had been moved from Wakefield and a new hall had been built; the new manse had been completed in 1982.
Upper Hutt is usually described as running north to south, when in fact it runs west-east. The accompanying article said that the additions would be at both sides and the 'west' end; in fact it is the southern, or 'east' end.
