DescriptionThis sketch of the building was printed in the November 1 1983 'Leader', following the Hutt County Council's approval; it had been refused earlier in the year.

There were conditions; approval by the Drainage Board and the Fire Service; metered water supply; no further use of asbestos, making existing asbestos inaccessible, and provision of wheelchair access. There would be a main hall, separate storerooms for each club, and changing, shower and kitchen facilities. A double education Department classroom would be moved from Fraser Crescent School to a site near the existing toilet blocks in about a month (actually in March 1984; picture in the March 20 'Leader'), and the building should be ready for use within six months. In fact, it was opened on July 27, 1986.

The sketch shows a building taller or narrower than the final product.

The March 20, 1979 'Leader' said the United Harriers and Road Runners Club had been the Petone Harriers, and based in Taita, but had moved to Trentham Memorial Park in 1969, as most of its members were from the upper valley. They had to leave the park 1n 1976 when the A & P Association ceased activities, and had restricted use of an Upper Hutt College classroom. They found new clubrooms in the Page Pavilion at Davis Field, Messines Road, at the beginning of 1979.

The December 7, 1982 'Leader' reported that the club was looking for a home of its own, and was joining with Heretaunga Cricket Club and another, unnamed, to buy a building, move it to a suitable site, and rejig it into a clubhouse-for-three. They were hoping the Trentham Memorial Park board would agree that the park would be ideal. Last edited by: Don McLeod
