DescriptionThe Wilsons had given 30 years' service to the red Cross in England, and then 23 in New Zealand, where they had helped to revive the local branch after their arrival. The branch ad recently bought four of these $370 wheelchairs. Like the organization's walking sticks, crutches and commodes, they were loaned free. The red Cross welcomed donations, and was also looking for drivers, who were offered petrol vouchers.
The September 18, 1974 'Leader' printed an article on the Wilson family's association with the Red Cross; three generations were pictured.
Daughter Maureen Hammond had been a member 28 years, husband Roy for 6 and their daughters Ann and Lesley for three and two years; and Mr Hammond's mother, 72, for 42 years.
