DescriptionPrinted in the 'Leader' on April 28, 1981.
According to the caption, the lower-case 'e' stood for energy, but more importantly the breaks in the lower portion denoted energy below ground level while the upper portion was symbolic of the energy available from the sun. The colours would be upper portion red, lower portion blue, and the centre black.
There had been a 4-year struggle with bureaucracy; the 1925 Electric Power Boards Act specified that very such body's name must be 'The .... Electric Power Board'. There was no explanation as to how '& Gas' had been allowed.
