The Birchville Community Association had asked that the number of suburb names be reduced. In principle, Akatarawa, Gillespies Road, Parkdale and Riverdale would no longer be suburbs, but Parkdale and Akatarawa still appear in a 2005 Kiwi Pathfinder map book.
