Description This architect's perspective view was printed in the November 10, 1981 'Leader'. The warehouse had gone into action on November 2, after a weekend move from Peterkin Street, Wingate.
There were five acres of warehouse, with another acre of offices on two floors above, two acres of sealed vehicle rea, and four acres held in reserve. There were 256 staff.
The distribution centre covered grocers as far north as Otaki, and also supplied warehouses in New Plymouth, Wanganui, Palmerston North and Napier with their imported items. $12 million worth of groceries would be carried, with annual turnover of $200 million.
The May 20, 1980 'Leader' had printed a picture of a helicopter placing roofing sheeting; a 3-1/2-hour task; the building was 21 000 square metres. Construction had begun in June 1979, with completion expected by the end of 1980.
The March 1, 2017 'Dominion Post' announced that Foodstuffs were selling the property by tender; it had expanded to just under 23 500 square metres; 12 228 of high-stud, 5420 of low-stud, 6000 of office space and 167 car parking spaces. Site area was 4.04 hectares. Foodstuffs were considering relocating office staff elsewhere in the valley, and leasing part of the space for its bottling plant and temporary office space. Rental value was $1.3 million a year.
