The lakes would cover about 80 acres(32 hectares). The Health Department would subsidise the project for up to $5 546 000; the total cost would be around $16 000 000. A pipeline from Kaitoke had to be diverted.
There was some energy, as the Karori dam was deemed to br e an earthquake risk. The reservoirs would become the responsibility of the newly-formed Wellington Regional Council.
