The Wellington Regional Water Board was negotiating to buy the land and had applied for loan sanction, with detail planning to start. Areas were 9.7 and 14.5 hectares, and they would hold 600 000 gallons, converted to 2728 million litres. They would feed the Kaitoke system when the Hutt River cold not supply the usual 22 million gallons a day.
