DescriptionPrinted in the August 21, 1974 'Leader' with a second article by Doctor H B Rainey, president of the Upper Valley Marae Community Centre, Inc.
The July 31 article accompanied a drawing of the community centre and described the marae; this second article was primarily about fund-raising.
The marae eventually acquired more land facing Park Street, including the corner section.
Purchase of a 1666 square metre section on the corner of Railway Avenue and Park Street for $10 000 was approved by the city council in February 2002; it had been leaed in perpetuity.
