DescriptionThe council had proposed toclose the Camp Road level crossing and create oe connecting Sutherland Avenue and Camp Road, giving better access to Trentham Camp and the General Motors plant in Alexander Road;that road could also be used to bypass Fergusson Drive.
The new crossing would affect house values, increase noise at the Post Office training centre, and affect trad of the Camp Road shops.
This traffic scheme was designed to improve flow; it was presented to a council committee meeting which attracted a packed gallery. The plan and a report on the meeing were printed in the December 11, 1984 'Leader'.
