Two-metre-wide medians in each approach should slow traffic; the Gard Street pedestrian crossing was new. It was felt that pedestrians crossing Whiteman's Road would find gaps in traffic and use the island, and would not need a crossng. Tere are pedestrian barriers at either side of each crossing.
