DescriptionThis picture was printed in the July 30, 1985 'Leader'; there was no plan which might show the location of the extension.
The Masonic Lodges of Upper Hutt offered to build a $400 000 500-square-metre Lockwood building, integrated with the civic centre, at no cost to the city; it would provide a Masonic Hall exclusive to the Masons, a carpeted hall with a dance floor, a committee rooom, kitchen and toilets. They would sell their Islington Street to the Ratana Church.
The library and reserves committee recommended that the offer be declined, with regret; private property on council land was a problem, and Upper Hutt had sufficient facilities.
