DescriptionAt the 1970 British Commonwealth Games Harry Kemp had won the gold medal in the men's 1 km time trial. He also finished 4th in the sprint and 6th in the 10 mile scratch race.
In the 'Leaders' it was announced on November 18 that he had been voted Wellington Sportsman of the Year, and on November 25, New Zealand Sportsman of the Year as well.
Kents' nurseries had been running since around 1930, and Wales since around 1950. There had been a 1971 proposal for Kent Nurseries and Roy Wales to combine on this site, but it didn't eventuate.
There was a history of strife between Harry and the city council over the garden centre, at least partly because the area was zoned residential.
