Caption reads: 'Image of ten-year-old Andrew Barrett and his homemade kontiki today made newspaper history by appearing in this, the first full colour photographic reproduction in the "Leader".
Andrew was trying out his new craft in a small rock pool at the edge of Te Awa Kairangi / Hutt River a few hundred metres downstream from the Moonshine Bridge.
The paper hopes to use full colour again at regular intervals in the future as a service to its readers and its advertisers.'
