Dunlop tyres; moulding; small sizes; de-bagger for cross-ply tyres, paternoster racks [P1-3539-5929]

PhotographerRevelle JacksonDescriptionDunlop car-tyre de-bagger, used to remove the thick-walled inner tube (a 'bag') from car tyres after moulding.
'Paternoster' racks in the background were used to store tyres awaiting moulding in presses beyond. The name comes from 'Paternoster' lifts, which ran continuously on an extended loop of chain, like these racks'. These racks were normally stationary, and some are carrying radial tyres.
In the background is a bagging machine, for inserting the air-bags; a cylindrical cross-ply tyre is standing on the base, and an upper plate will be lowered while the tyre is inflated.
Further back, static storage for uncured cross-ply tyres; there must have been much wasteful effort involved in this system.
