DescriptionCaption: Historic Village Society President Keith Davis (left) and Upper Hutt resident and city councillor Richard Brewer outside the old hall at Silverstream that Mr Brewer's family company has just bought to save it from possible demolition.

Already the hall has turned up some history such as this shield which will be passed to the Historic Village Society for safekeeping. Mr Brewer says the hall has been a very significant part of local history and he hopes that the unrecorded history surrounding the hall and the Silverstream Social Club will now surface and be recorded for future generations. He says the Historic Village Society has indicated its support for collecting the history.

The February 1, 1993'Leader' said that Caroline Steel and Shayne Rundal were starting Saturday ballet classes for five-to-eight-year-olds; all levels would be offered at Naenae. Earlier advertisements had not named the venue.

Richard refurbished the hall, and his daughter Natasha ran the Variety Dance Centre there for many years, starting in 1994. It seems to have closed in 2017; Zap Group, contract gardeners, have taken over the frontage.

The YMCA used the hall from November 1981, after Trentham Police Training College closed.
Joanne Jones advertised a dancing academy in Silverstream in February 1986, but gave no address. It does not seem to have survived into 1987.Date TakenAugust/September 1992Geotag^[1] Last edited by: Don McLeod
