Wayne Guppy oral history

Upper Hutt mayor and former pharmacist Wayne Guppy was interviewed by Caren Wilton on 16 December 2015 for the Upper Hutt in the 1960s oral history project.

Born in Upper Hutt in 1954, Wayne remembers a happy childhood spent in a neighbourhood full of young families. He talks about attending Fraser Crescent primary school, playing at the river, swimming at the pool and sneaking up to McCurdy’s Castle. He also talks about his teenage years, when he attended  St Pat’s College, and remembers the 1966 civic celebrations, the frequent floods and the Wahine storm.
